What is Reiki?
A lot has been written about Reiki, but to understand it you have to live it, to feel it, to open yourself to the love of the Universe.
Reiki is a Japanese technique rediscovered by the Japanese Dr. Mikao Usui in 1920 where the laying on of hands on the body of a person or animal is used to enhance balance, vitality and inner well-being.
This method of balancing and harmonising is a holistic technique as it works on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual body, we are an integrated whole.
Reiki is a holistic method
- On the physical side, it harmonises and balances the functioning of our muscles, glands, bones, internal and external organs, circulation, helps to reduce tensions, contractures, pains.
- On the mental side, it develops serenity, creativity, increases concentration and clarity of thought.
- On the emotional side, it promotes relaxation and tranquillity in our emotions, wellbeing and relaxation of our thoughts, generates security and feelings of satisfaction.
- On the spiritual side, it balances the chakras, purifies the consciousness, promotes meditation and helps to keep in tune with spirituality.
The 5 Reiki precepts
- Just for today, I will not be angry.
- Just for today, I will not worry.
- Just for today, I will be grateful.
- Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
- Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
Reiki is recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and has no side effects.
The person who gives Reiki, is only a channel, the energy that is given is the energy of love, of God, of the Universe, of Light, whatever you like to call it.
If love is energy, imagine Reiki as a shower of loving energy that penetrates your whole being with love, cleansing everything that does not coincide with love. In short, Reiki is energy of love.
